Green Energy

Zeebrugge plays an important role in the delivery of ‘clean’ energy. In addition to the supply of natural gas at the terminals of Fluxys, Statoil and Interconnector, the port also has an ultramodern STEG power station operated by Electrabel.
On the eastern breakwater, ‘Interelectra’ operates a wind turbine park with 23 wind turbines with a total annual production of 17,500 MWh, which is sufficient to provide 5,000 families with electricity.
In 2000, Electrabel and Electrawinds also started the construction of a wind turbine park along the Baudouin canal. Every one of the 14 wind turbines with a rotor diameter of 48 metres has a capacity of 600 KWh, which is sufficient for the annual consumption of electricity of 4,500 families.
