Zeebrugge is chiefly a transit port with hardly any polluting industry. The problem of water pollution through discharge has been tackled with the construction of a port reception facility for waste and freight residues. The limited pressure on the environment is caused by the traffic and noise burden, the light and sight pollution. According to a provincial study the neighbourhood experiences the burden on the environment as relatively small.
